Prateek Yadav, the son of the late Mulayam Singh Yadav, died Wednesday morning in Lucknow after suffering a massive pulmonary thromboembolism [1], [4].

Yadav was the stepbrother of Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav. His sudden death has drawn significant attention due to his family's prominent standing in Uttar Pradesh politics and the discovery of physical injuries during the post-mortem examination.

Medical officials said Yadav was taken to Lucknow's Civil Hospital, where he was declared brought dead [3]. An autopsy performed at King George's Medical University determined the cause of death was "cardiorespiratory collapse due to massive pulmonary thromboembolism" [1]. This condition occurs when a large blood clot blocks the pulmonary artery, preventing blood flow to the lungs.

Reports indicated that Yadav's body and nails had turned blue prior to the examination [5]. While the pulmonary clot was identified as the primary cause of death, the autopsy also documented six antemortem injuries [2]. These injuries were located on his chest, under the right arm, the right forearm, the right elbow joint, over the elbow, and the left wrist [1].

Yadav was 38 years old at the time of his death [1]. The medical report noted the injuries but did not identify them as the primary cause of the fatal cardiorespiratory collapse [1].

The confirmation of a pulmonary thromboembolism provides a clinical cause of death, but the presence of six documented antemortem injuries introduces a layer of forensic complexity. While medical examiners have identified the clot as the primary trigger for the cardiorespiratory collapse, the origin and nature of the physical injuries remain a point of scrutiny for investigators.
