Gian Singh Mann, the cousin of Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, has officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) [1, 2].

The move represents a significant familial and political rift within the ruling administration of Punjab. By joining the opposition, Mann provides the BJP with a high-profile defector who possesses direct ties to the state's top leadership.

The joining ceremony took place in Satauj village, located in the Sangrur district of Punjab [2, 3, 4]. BJP state chief Sunil Jakhar was present during the event to welcome the new member into the party [2, 3, 4].

During his public remarks, Gian Singh Mann criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), alleging that the organization has abandoned its original principles. He said, "AAP has drifted away from its policies" [1]. He further described the ruling party as a "Khaas Aadmi Party," suggesting it has become elitist rather than representing the common person [3].

Mann also targeted the administration's integrity. He said that corruption has doubled [5]. This allegation aligns with his broader claim that the party has become corrupt, and that the BJP is the only entity capable of effectively working for the interests of Punjab [2, 3].

He said, "Only BJP can work for Punjab" [2]. The transition comes as political tensions rise ahead of upcoming electoral battles in the state, where the BJP seeks to weaken the AAP's grip on power by attracting key figures from the Chief Minister's own circle.

"AAP has drifted away from its policies."

This defection serves as a strategic blow to the Aam Aadmi Party's image of transparency and kinship. By securing a relative of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, the BJP gains a potent rhetorical tool to argue that even those closest to the CM recognize a failure in governance and a rise in corruption within the state administration.
