Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD) said President Donald Trump turned the White House into a moneymaking operation during the first year of his second term.

The allegation suggests a fundamental shift in the nature of the U.S. presidency, moving from traditional governance to a system designed for personal financial gain. Raskin said the office is being used to fund political activities and generate private wealth.

According to Raskin, the White House generated $2.2 billion [1] in its first year of the 2025-2026 term. He said President Trump has gone from brick-and-mortar corruption to something so much worse.

Speaking on MSNBC, Raskin said the president has turned the White House into a moneymaking operation. The lawmaker said the current administration's financial activities are a departure from previous standards of executive conduct.

President Trump, 79 [3], has responded to the criticisms. In a statement reported by Reuters, Trump said, "Expel the bum."

The accusations center on the use of federal resources and the prestige of the presidency to drive revenue. Raskin said the scale of the operation is unprecedented for a sitting president.

"The president has turned the White House into a moneymaking operation."

These allegations represent a significant escalation in the legal and ethical scrutiny of the executive branch. By quantifying the alleged profit at $2.2 billion, Rep. Raskin is framing the administration's financial conduct not as a series of conflicts of interest, but as a systemic business model integrated into the federal government.
