The 2026 Rotary International Convention has commenced in Taipei, Taiwan, bringing together thousands of members to spotlight global unity and service.
The event serves as a primary hub for the organization to foster international collaboration among Rotarians. By gathering diverse leadership in one city, the convention aims to strengthen the network's ability to coordinate large-scale humanitarian efforts across borders.
Organizers expect approximately 40,000 people [1] to attend the proceedings. These participants represent 140 countries [1], reflecting the global reach of the organization's membership. The gathering focuses on the theme of uniting for good to address pressing global challenges.
Despite the high attendance, some members face significant barriers to participation. More than 600 Rotarians [2] are unable to attend the convention in Taipei. This includes a specific impact on members from East Africa, where about 600 Ugandan Rotarians [2] were registered but cannot make the trip.
Taipei serves as the backdrop for these discussions on service and partnership. The city's infrastructure is hosting the influx of international delegates as they engage in sessions designed to promote peace, and sustainable development—core pillars of the Rotary mission.
The convention continues to emphasize the importance of cross-cultural exchange. By bringing together members from such a wide array of nations, the organization seeks to build lasting professional and personal bonds that facilitate future philanthropic projects.
“The 2026 Rotary International Convention has commenced in Taipei, Taiwan.”
The scale of the Taipei convention underscores Rotary International's role as a significant diplomatic and philanthropic network. However, the absence of over 600 members, particularly from Uganda, highlights the ongoing logistical and financial disparities that can limit full global representation even within well-funded international organizations.
