Russian forces killed at least 22 people [1] and wounded more than 100 [2] in heavy strikes on Ukrainian cities overnight.
The scale of the assault underscores a continuing escalation in aerial warfare, targeting both urban centers and critical infrastructure to disrupt civilian life.
Russian forces deployed hundreds of drones [3] and dozens of missiles [4] against Kyiv, Dnipro, and other Ukrainian cities. The strikes caused widespread damage across multiple regions, resulting in significant casualties among the population.
Russia said the attacks were a response to a drone strike that hit a dormitory in the Russian-held Luhansk region. Russian officials said the attacks on the capital would be systematic.
An unnamed Ukrainian official said, "We are seeing a systematic attack on Kyiv after the recent incident in Luhansk."
The violence has drawn international condemnation. Polish President Andrzej Duda said more than 20 people have been killed and more than 100 wounded in the latest wave of attacks.
Emergency responders worked through the night to rescue survivors from the rubble in the affected cities. While the primary focus of the strikes included Kyiv and Dnipro, other reports indicate that the drone attacks also reached Kharkiv, and Sumy.
“Russian forces deployed hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles against Kyiv, Dnipro, and other Ukrainian cities.”
The transition toward 'systematic' attacks on the capital indicates a Russian strategy of attrition and psychological pressure. By linking these strikes to specific incidents in Luhansk, the Kremlin is framing large-scale civilian casualties as retaliatory measures, signaling a willingness to escalate aerial bombardments in response to Ukrainian drone operations within occupied territories.
