Saayoni Ghosh, a Trinamool Congress MP and actor-politician, denied any ownership or link to a Kolkata property allegedly tied to Abhishek Banerjee [1, 2].
The denial comes as Ghosh seeks to counter social-media allegations of joint property ownership, a claim that could potentially lead to political scrutiny or legal challenges for the TMC leaders [1, 4].
Ghosh described the allegations as "fake news" and said she will take legal action against anyone spreading them [1]. The controversy centers on a residential flat in Kolkata that became the subject of a Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) inspection [1, 2].
According to Ghosh, the municipal investigation cleared her of any involvement with the property [3]. She said the flat actually belongs to a private couple who happen to have identical names, rather than herself or Banerjee [2].
"The KMC inspection cleared me – the flat belongs to a private couple with identical names, not to me or Abhishek Banerjee," Ghosh said [2].
Ghosh said she will pursue legal remedies to address what she describes as defamation [1, 4]. The dispute highlights the volatility of social-media claims regarding the assets of high-profile politicians in West Bengal [1, 2].
“"These are fake news and I will take legal action against anyone spreading them."”
This incident underscores the recurring tension between digital allegations and official records in Indian regional politics. By citing a Kolkata Municipal Corporation inspection, Ghosh is attempting to move the dispute from the court of public opinion to a framework of verified administrative evidence to protect her and Banerjee's political reputations.
