Samsung Electronics reached an agreement to pay memory-chip employees performance bonuses of up to 600 million won [1].

Under the 2024 profit-sharing plan, Samsung allocated 10.5% of the semiconductor division's operating profit to a special bonus fund [1]. This fund totals 31.5 trillion won, based on an operating-profit outlook of 300 trillion won [1].

The company divided the fund into different tiers. A portion of 12.6 trillion won, or 40% of the fund, will be distributed equally among the 78,000 semiconductor employees [1]. This results in an average basic bonus of 160 million won per person [1].

Staff in the memory division will receive additional rewards beyond the basic bonus. These special bonuses amount to 380 million won per person [1]. When combined with the base performance-bonus amount of 70 million won under the existing scheme, the total payout for some memory-chip staff reaches the 600 million won mark [1].

Workers in finished-product divisions, such as those producing mobile phones and home appliances, will receive significantly less. Bonuses for these employees are approximately 1% of the memory bonus, or about six million won per person [1].

The agreement follows negotiations between Samsung Electronics management and the labor union to determine how to reward the high-profit units of the business [1].
