Samsung Electronics is expected to report a second-quarter operating profit of approximately 85 trillion won [1].
The figures signal a massive recovery for the South Korean tech giant, driven by a surge in demand for memory semiconductors required to power artificial intelligence. This boom has pushed the company toward record-high earnings as the global AI infrastructure build-out accelerates.
According to analysts, the base operating profit estimate of 85 trillion won [1] is accompanied by a projected revenue of roughly 172 trillion won [1]. However, the total financial gain may be significantly higher. When a 19 trillion-won performance-bonus reserve is added to the base figure, the total operating profit could exceed 100 trillion won [1].
This growth represents a dramatic shift in the company's financial trajectory. Operating profit has seen a quarter-over-quarter increase of approximately 50% [1]. More strikingly, the year-over-year increase in operating profit is estimated at around 1,700% [1].
"Samsung Electronics is analyzed to have produced another record-breaking performance in the second quarter, meeting the super-boom of memory semiconductors in the AI era," said a YTN anchor [2].
The company's ability to capitalize on the AI trend has allowed it to distance itself from previous downturns in the chip market. The inclusion of the performance-bonus reserve, which is typically excluded from base profit estimates, highlights the scale of the windfall the company is managing this year.
"Some prospects in the securities industry suggest that if the reserves to be paid as performance bonuses are included, the actual operating profit earned will exceed 100 trillion won," said analysts quoted by YTN [2].
Reporter Park Ki-wan said the securities industry's aggregate forecast for the second quarter stands at 172 trillion won in revenue and roughly 85 trillion won in operating profit [3].
“The total operating profit could exceed 100 trillion won.”
The projected earnings surge underscores the critical role of high-bandwidth memory in the AI ecosystem. By achieving a year-over-year profit increase of 1,700%, Samsung demonstrates that the AI-driven demand for semiconductors is not merely a gradual recovery but a fundamental shift in market valuation and production requirements for memory chips.
