Saronic founders have announced a new port development in Texas to address a widening gap in naval shipbuilding capacity between the U.S. and China.
The project aims to modernize maritime defense through autonomous systems at a time when traditional shipbuilding costs and speeds struggle to keep pace with global adversaries.
Speaking on the All-In Podcast, the founders said China currently out-builds the U.S. at a ratio of 230-to-1 [1]. They said that while a single U.S. destroyer can cost $3 billion [2], the current defense budget allocates only one percent to autonomy [3].
To counter this disparity, Saronic is developing Port Alpha in Brownsville, Texas. The site will span 4,000 acres [6], and it is designed to produce 10,000 units of autonomous systems [7]. This infrastructure is intended to shift the U.S. toward a high-volume, autonomous fleet strategy.
As part of this strategic shift, the company discussed the use of Corsair aircraft to secure critical waterways. The founders said 10,000 Corsairs could be used to lock down a 20-mile stretch of a strait [4, 5].
These autonomous capabilities have already seen operational application. The founders said the U.S. Navy recently conducted its first autonomous rescue in the Strait of Hormuz [1].

The shift toward autonomous naval systems represents a departure from the U.S. Navy's traditional reliance on a small number of expensive, multi-mission platforms. By focusing on mass-produced, lower-cost autonomous units, Saronic and the U.S. defense sector are attempting to offset China's massive shipbuilding advantage through asymmetric technology and rapid scalability.
