Congress MP Shashi Tharoor said he is confident in the performance of the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) ahead of Kerala election results.
The outcome of the Kerala Assembly election serves as a critical bellwether for political momentum in southern India, with the UDF seeking to reclaim power from the Left Democratic Front (LDF).
Speaking in New Delhi on April 29, Tharoor said recent exit poll data is a reason for his optimism [1]. The Axis My India exit poll projects the UDF will secure between 78 and 90 seats [2]. This range exceeds the 71 seats required for a majority in the 140-seat Kerala Legislative Assembly [3, 4].
In contrast, the same projections suggest the LDF will win between 49 and 62 seats [2]. While some reports described the race as a tight contest, the Axis My India data indicates a clear advantage for the UDF [2, 5].
"We are very confident," Tharoor said [1]. During a separate video appearance, he also referred to a "zero-seat party" [6].
The voting process for the assembly took place on April 9 [4]. Voters across the state cast ballots to determine the leadership of the Kerala government for the next term. The UDF's confidence stems from these projections, which suggest a significant shift in voter preference away from the incumbent LDF coalition.
“"We are very confident."”
A UDF victory would represent a significant political shift in Kerala, ending the LDF's hold on power. If the Axis My India projections hold true, the UDF will not only secure a majority but do so with a comfortable margin above the 71-seat threshold, potentially altering the regional power balance in India's southern states.
