Chief minister-designate DK Shivakumar met with senior Congress leaders Siddaramaiah and G Parameshwara on Wednesday before his official swearing-in ceremony.
The meeting serves as a critical coordination point for the new administration to resolve power-sharing agreements and finalize the composition of the state cabinet.
The leaders gathered at the residence of Siddaramaiah to discuss gratitude and the upcoming transition of power. This meeting preceded the formal oath-taking ceremony scheduled for 4:05 p.m. [1] at Lok Bhavan in Bengaluru.
As part of the transition, G Parameshwara is expected to take a senior leadership role in the new government. "G Parameshwara will become deputy CM of the state," Siddaramaiah’s office said [2].
Shivakumar is set to become the 34th chief minister of Karnataka [3]. The transition involves not only the chief minister's appointment but also the selection of the broader executive team. Reports indicate the first cabinet is expected to consist of around 10 ministers [4].
The discussions at the residence focused on ensuring a smooth handover and coordinating the specific portfolios that will be assigned to the incoming ministers. By meeting with both Siddaramaiah and Parameshwara, Shivakumar aimed to secure the support of the party's senior wing before assuming office.
“"G Parameshwara will become deputy CM of the state."”
The coordination between Shivakumar, Siddaramaiah, and Parameshwara suggests a strategic effort by the Congress party to maintain internal stability. By formally designating a deputy chief minister and limiting the initial cabinet size, the administration is attempting to balance power dynamics among senior leaders to prevent factional friction during the early stages of the term.
