Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah said the Thar region is central to Sindh's development vision and Pakistan's energy future.

The focus on the Thar region is intended to highlight the importance of indigenous energy for provincial development and national energy security.

Shah said this during the 30th meeting [5] of the Thar Coal and Energy Board in Sindh, Pakistan. The administration is positioning the region as a cornerstone for the country's ability to generate power internally, reducing reliance on external energy sources.

Beyond energy, the provincial government has recently focused on social welfare and infrastructure. In April 2026, Shah distributed funds to 105 partner organisations [3] to provide disability support programmes. While reports on the total funding differ, estimates range from Rs800 million [1] to Rs8 billion [2].

Infrastructure and public works also remain a priority for the administration. Shah said he reviewed a Federal Public Sector Development Programme portfolio valued at Rs140 billion [4], where he ordered the fast-track completion of road projects. Additionally, the chief minister approved major infrastructure, education, and transport projects during the 52nd meeting [6] of the Public-Private Partnership Policy Board.

These combined efforts in energy, social services, and transport are part of a broader strategy to modernize the province's economy. By integrating the resource-rich Thar region into the national grid and improving local accessibility through road projects, the government aims to stabilize the energy supply and foster regional growth.

The Thar region is central to Sindh's development vision and Pakistan's energy future.

The strategic prioritization of the Thar region indicates a shift toward energy independence for Pakistan. By leveraging local coal and energy resources, the Sindh government seeks to mitigate the economic volatility associated with imported fuel while simultaneously using infrastructure projects to integrate marginalized regions into the national economy.
