Peter Seah has stepped down as chairman of Singapore's National Wages Council for personal reasons [1].
The leadership change occurs at a critical juncture for the council, which provides guidance on wage adjustments and productivity to maintain Singapore's economic competitiveness.
The Ministry of Manpower announced the transition on Wednesday, Aug. 19 [1]. According to the ministry, Seah requested to leave the position, and officials decided to grant the request after deliberation [4].
Hsieh Fu Hua will assume the chairmanship for the 2026/27 session [2]. Hsieh previously served as the deputy chairman of the council before this appointment [5].
The National Wages Council operates as a tripartite body, bringing together representatives from the government, employers, and employees. Its primary role is to recommend wage guidelines that balance the needs of workers with the sustainability of businesses.
"After deliberation, MOM has decided to accede to the request," the Ministry of Manpower said in a press release [4].
The transition ensures that the council remains operational as it prepares for its upcoming session. "Hsieh Fu Hua will take over as chairman of Singapore's National Wages Council (NWC) for the 2026/27 session," the ministry said [2].
“Peter Seah has stepped down as chairman of Singapore's National Wages Council for personal reasons.”
The appointment of Hsieh Fu Hua provides continuity for the National Wages Council, as he moves from deputy chairman to the top role. Because the NWC relies on tripartite consensus to stabilize the labor market, a seamless transition is intended to prevent volatility in wage recommendations during the 2026/27 session.
