Congress MP Abhishek Manu Singhvi said central government pressure caused the Tamil Nadu Governor to delay inviting Vijay to form the state government.

The situation creates a political standoff in Tamil Nadu, where the TVK is the single largest party. The delay in the oath-taking ceremony threatens to stall the formation of a legal administration despite an apparent majority in the assembly.

Singhvi said the Governor only needs to verify the 113 MLAs [1] who back Vijay. According to Singhvi, the TVK has the necessary support from the Congress party to lead the state. He said that the Governor is prolonging the process based on external influence rather than procedural necessity.

Singhvi said the majority test should be held on the Assembly floor within the stipulated time. He said that the current delay is an attempt to obstruct the democratic process. The senior advocate said that verifying the support of the 113 MLAs [1] is a straightforward task that should not hinder the swearing-in ceremony.

The TVK leader, Vijay, remains waiting for the official invitation to take office. Singhvi said the central government is utilizing the Governor's office to exert pressure on the state's political transition. He said that the Congress party continues to support Vijay's claim to form the government.

Central government pressure caused the Tamil Nadu Governor to delay inviting Vijay

This dispute highlights the recurring tension between state-level electoral outcomes and the discretionary powers of the Governor, who is appointed by the central government. If the delay continues, it may lead to a constitutional crisis or legal challenges regarding the timeline for forming a government after an election.
