Sony Interactive Entertainment is releasing a 27-inch PlayStation-branded gaming monitor designed specifically for the PS5 [1].
The hardware represents an effort by Sony to create a curated ecosystem for its console users by integrating peripheral charging and display settings into a single branded device.
First announced in November 2025 [5], the monitor features a QHD 1440p resolution [3] and support for High Dynamic Range (HDR). To cater to high-performance gaming, the screen supports Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and can reach a maximum refresh rate of up to 240Hz [2].
A primary physical feature of the device is a built-in charging hook for the DualSense controller [6]. This integration allows players to charge their controllers directly via the monitor's chassis, reducing cable clutter on the desk.
The product is scheduled to ship starting Aug. 27, 2026 [4]. Sony said that the monitor will be available for purchase through PlayStation Direct, the company's official online store [7], while stocks last [4].
This release follows a broader trend of console manufacturers expanding into specialized peripherals to maximize hardware synergy. By controlling the display specifications, Sony can ensure that the visual output of the PS5 is optimized for the user's environment without requiring manual calibration of third-party screens.
“The new QHD display features a 240Hz refresh rate”
Sony is shifting from being solely a console and software provider to a hardware ecosystem manager. By releasing a proprietary monitor, the company attempts to capture more of the peripheral market and ensure a standardized visual experience for PS5 users, mirroring the vertical integration strategies seen in the PC gaming and smartphone industries.
