Weather officials said the heat is being sustained by a stagnant North Pacific high-pressure system. The heat-wave warnings currently cover nearly the entire nation, with the exception of high-altitude areas in Gangwon Province [1, 2].

While the heat persists, attention is shifting toward Typhoon Saudel. The 18th typhoon of the season is moving westward and is expected to make landfall in China on Aug. 28 [2].

Reporter Ko Han-seok of YTN said the storm is likely to influence South Korean weather after the weekend [1]. The current focus remains on the immediate danger of the heat wave, but the shift in pressure systems caused by the typhoon may eventually alter the current temperature trends.

Local authorities continue to advise citizens to avoid outdoor activities during peak heat hours to prevent heat-related illnesses. The government is monitoring the trajectory of Typhoon Saudel to determine if the storm will bring relief from the heat or introduce new risks, such as heavy rainfall and strong winds [1, 2].
