A prolonged drought in South Korea's Yeongnam region has reduced the Unmun Dam reservoir to approximately 25% of its total capacity.
The water shortage threatens the food security of the region and the stability of domestic water supplies for residents in several major cities.

Agricultural sectors are bearing the brunt of the depletion. In Gyeongsangnam-do alone, 2,121 hectares of farmland have been affected by the lack of irrigation water [1].
