"It is the epicentre of the eclipse in Spain," Jimenez said.
While the observatory offers a land-based vantage point, other high-end options have emerged for the event. Some luxury expedition cruises have offered packages to view the eclipsed sunset for $225,000 [4].
The path of totality will move across several countries, including a small part of Portugal and northern Spain [2, 3]. Astronomers and tourists are congregating in these zones to experience the few minutes of total darkness that occur when the moon completely obscures the sun.
Staff at the Galactica Observatory have been preparing the site to handle the influx of eclipse-chasers. The remote nature of the Arcos de las Salinas location is intended to minimize light pollution and geographic interference—factors that are critical for high-quality observation.
