The nationwide pull follows an investigation by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). Because the contaminated lettuce was distributed across multiple regions, the move aims to prevent further infections of cyclosporiasis, a stomach parasite that causes severe gastrointestinal distress.

Cyclosporiasis typically manifests as watery diarrhea, stomach cramps, and nausea.
