The Communist Party of India (CPI), Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPI(M)), and Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) may support Vijay as chief minister of Tamil Nadu.

This potential alignment comes as the state faces a hung assembly, meaning no single party has secured an absolute majority to govern alone. The decision could shift the political landscape of the region by elevating a film star turned politician to the state's highest office.

Vijay, the chief of the Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), secured 108 seats in the assembly election [1]. Because the assembly remains hung, various parties are currently weighing their coalition options to form a stable government.

The three parties, CPI, CPI(M), and VCK, have hinted that they are open to backing Vijay's bid for the premiership. However, they have not yet committed to a formal agreement. Representatives from these parties said a final decision will be taken after an upcoming meeting.

The parties are reportedly waiting to see Vijay's specific stance and policy positions before finalizing their support. This cautious approach allows the left-wing parties to negotiate terms that align with their own political agendas while acknowledging the significant electoral strength of the TVK.

While the CPI(M) has maintained a connection with the DMK, the current uncertainty of the assembly results has opened the door for new configurations. The upcoming meeting will serve as the primary venue for these parties to determine if a coalition centered around Vijay is viable.

The three parties have hinted they may support Vijay’s bid to become Chief Minister.

The possibility of a coalition supporting Vijay indicates a shift toward a multi-party power-sharing agreement in Tamil Nadu. With the TVK holding a substantial block of seats, Vijay has become a kingmaker in a fragmented assembly, forcing traditional left-wing parties to consider an alliance with a relatively new political entity to ensure government stability.
