Temasek plans to deploy approximately $10 billion [2] in India as part of its investment strategy for the 2027 fiscal year.
This capital injection signals a strong vote of confidence in India's macroeconomic stability and the scalability of its digital infrastructure. By focusing on high-growth sectors, the Singaporean sovereign wealth fund aims to capture long-term value from the region's evolving tech landscape.
Ravi Lambah, Temasek's Head of Strategic Initiatives and Head (India), said the firm has invested around $9 billion [1] in India over the past three years. He said the investment momentum remains on track.
A central pillar of the FY27 strategy involves the artificial intelligence sector. Lambah said the "application layer" is the biggest AI opportunity [1]. While foundational models provide the base, the application layer focuses on the software, and services that deliver AI capabilities to end-users in specific industries.
Beyond technology, Temasek continues to monitor the healthcare sector. The firm's approach treats specific market events, such as the Manipal Hospital IPO, as individual milestones rather than shifts in the broader strategy. Lambah said the firm remains bullish on the healthcare run.
The deployment of $10 billion [2] follows a period of aggressive expansion into the Indian market. This strategy aligns with a broader trend of global institutional investors shifting focus toward emerging markets with robust domestic consumption and digital adoption.
“"application layer" picked as the biggest AI opportunity”
Temasek's shift toward the AI application layer suggests a transition from investing in general infrastructure to targeting specialized, revenue-generating software. By committing $10 billion to the Indian market, the fund is betting that India can move from being a consumer of global technology to a hub for AI-driven business solutions, particularly within healthcare and enterprise services.
