Swedish producer Axel Willner has released a new music project titled “Now You Exist” under his moniker The Field [1].

The release ends an eight-year hiatus for the project, marking a significant return for one of Sweden's most influential electronic music producers [1, 3].

Willner released the new material on May 15, 2024 [4], through the Swedish label Studio Barnhus [4]. The record consists of five tracks [5] and has a total runtime of around 40 minutes [4].

This project is the first new material under The Field since the release of the 2018 album “Infinite Moment” [1, 6]. While Willner remained active in other capacities, including a lengthy compilation released with Pelle Lundquist in 2020 [6], he had not produced new work under The Field project until now [1].

Reports on the specific format of the release vary. Some sources describe “Now You Exist” as an album [3], while others classify the five-track collection as an EP [5]. Despite these differing labels, the project represents the first solo output from the artist in eight years [1, 3].

The return of The Field suggests a revival of Willner's specific approach to loop-based electronic music. By releasing through Studio Barnhus, a label deeply embedded in the Swedish underground scene, Willner aligns his return with a community known for experimental and minimalist club music, potentially signaling a shift in sonic direction from his 2018 work.
