TMC MLA Kunal Ghosh criticized senior TMC MP Sudip Bandyopadhyay on Saturday after Bandyopadhyay met with BJP Union Minister Bhupender Yadav [1].
The public rift between the two party members signals growing internal instability within the Trinamool Congress as allegations of disloyalty surface. This friction occurs amid wider speculation regarding potential defections to the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Bandyopadhyay met with the Union Minister in New Delhi on June 13 [1]. Regarding the encounter, Bandyopadhyay said, "I met Union Minister Bhupender Yadav to discuss development issues for West Bengal" [3].
Ghosh challenged this explanation during statements made in Kolkata. He accused the MP of a pattern of party-switching and suggested that such actions weaken the unity of the party and its leader, Mamata Banerjee. "He has a history of changing parties and misleading Mamata Banerjee," Ghosh said [4].
The confrontation comes as reports indicate several senior TMC MPs may approach the Lok Sabha Speaker following the meeting [1]. While some reports suggest Ghosh may be replacing Bandyopadhyay in certain party positions, other sources indicate Bandyopadhyay remains a senior member of the party [1].
Separately, Ghosh addressed a legal matter involving the Criminal Investigation Department. He confirmed that a notice from the agency has been received. "The CID notice has been received; we will fully cooperate with the investigation," Ghosh said [4].
“He has a history of changing parties and misleading Mamata Banerjee.”
The public confrontation between Ghosh and Bandyopadhyay highlights a fragility in the Trinamool Congress's internal cohesion. By framing a meeting about state development as an act of betrayal, Ghosh is signaling a zero-tolerance approach toward BJP engagement, while the mention of the CID investigation suggests that legal pressures may be compounding the political instability within the party's leadership.
