Tamil Nadu Chief Minister C. Joseph Vijay laid the foundation stone for a ₹850 crore [1] footwear manufacturing expansion in Karur.

The project represents a significant industrial push for the region by scaling production for a global brand while targeting thousands of new employment opportunities for local workers.

The expansion covers Phase II [2] of the Evervan Kothari Footwear Private Limited facility. The plant specializes in non-leather footwear manufactured for Adidas [3]. This specific investment of ₹850 crore [1] aims to increase the overall production capacity of the unit to meet global demand.

According to official estimates, the expansion is expected to generate approximately 6,750 [4] new jobs in the Karur district. The initiative focuses on integrating sustainable manufacturing practices into the regional industrial landscape.

"I am delighted to lay the foundation stone for this project which will create thousands of jobs for the youth of Tamil Nadu," Vijay said.

The company's approach to the expansion emphasizes a move away from traditional materials. A spokesperson for Evervan Kothari Footwear said the expansion will enable the company to meet the growing demand for Adidas footwear while adhering to non-leather, sustainable manufacturing standards.

The facility is part of a broader effort to establish Tamil Nadu as a hub for high-tech, sustainable apparel, and footwear production. By focusing on non-leather alternatives, the plant aligns with shifting global consumer preferences toward environmentally conscious products.

The project represents a significant industrial push for the region

This investment underscores a strategic pivot toward sustainable manufacturing in India's textile and footwear sectors. By partnering with a global brand like Adidas for a non-leather facility, Tamil Nadu is positioning itself to capture the growing market for eco-friendly consumer goods while simultaneously addressing youth unemployment through large-scale industrial scaling.
