Tottenham Hotspur captain Micky van de Ven said the club's survival in the Premier League is uncertain ahead of the final matchday.
The situation is critical because a historic club faces the prospect of relegation, which would result in significant financial loss and a loss of prestige.
Speaking from the club's training facilities in London, van de Ven said the weight of wearing the captain's armband during the crisis. He noted that the team has very little time to rectify their season as they prepare for final fixtures, including a match at Stamford Bridge [1].
"We don't have a long time left," van de Ven said [2].
The club's struggle is reflected in the league standings. Tottenham currently sits two points above West Ham, which occupies 18th place [3]. This narrow margin leaves the team vulnerable to a single poor result.
Recovery has been slow for the North London side. A recent win over Wolves ended a winless streak that began in 2025 [4]. Despite that victory, records show the team had not won a league match since December 2025 [5].
Van de Ven said the importance of James Maddison's return to the lineup to provide necessary creativity and leadership. The defender's comments align with the gravity of the situation described by manager Roberto De Zerbi.
"Our dignity is on the line," De Zerbi said [6].
“"We don't have a long time left."”
Tottenham's current position represents a systemic collapse for a team typically associated with European competition. The fact that they have gone nearly five months without a league win—stretching from December 2025 to May 2026—suggests a deep tactical or psychological failure. Survival now depends on a narrow points gap and the immediate impact of returning key players like James Maddison.
