President Donald Trump unveiled a Boeing 747 gifted by Qatar on Friday, June 19, to serve as the new Air Force One.

The acquisition of the luxury aircraft marks a sudden shift in presidential transport, replacing aging jets with a high-value gift from a foreign royal family.

The unveiling ceremony took place at Joint Base Andrews, Maryland. The aircraft, which comes with a valuation of $400 million [1], was provided by the Qatari royal family to ensure the U.S. president has a faster and more luxurious means of transport.

Trump praised the generosity of the gift and the specifications of the aircraft. "Thanks Qatar for handing over the world's most luxurious plane," Trump said.

While some reports designate the Boeing 747 as the new permanent Air Force One, other accounts suggest the plane may serve as an interim solution while older jets are mothballed. Trump emphasized the performance capabilities of the new addition to the fleet.

"It will fly further and faster than any other model of presidential plane," Trump said.

The transition comes as the U.S. government seeks to modernize its executive transport. The previous fleet had faced scrutiny over age and maintenance requirements. Trump highlighted the interior and status of the aircraft during the event at the base.

"This is considered the world's most luxurious plane," Trump said.

"This is considered the world's most luxurious plane."

The acceptance of a $400 million aircraft from a foreign government deviates from traditional U.S. procurement processes for presidential transport, which typically involve multi-year congressional budgeting and domestic manufacturing. By utilizing a gift to bypass the lengthy timeline of building a new Air Force One, the administration gains immediate luxury and speed, but creates a unique precedent regarding the origin and ownership of the primary U.S. command-and-control aircraft.
