Union Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development Pemmasani Chandra Sekhar urged youth to prioritize skill development at a Rozgar Mela.
The address emphasizes the government's push to align the workforce with modern industrial needs to reduce unemployment. By focusing on employable skills, the administration aims to transition the youth from job seekers to productive contributors in the national economy.
Speaking on Jan. 24, 2024 [3], Pemmasani said that youth must focus on acquiring skills to remain competitive. He highlighted the importance of transparent recruitment processes and the growth of national infrastructure as key drivers for job creation. These efforts are part of the broader 'Viksit Bharat' vision, which seeks to transform India into a developed nation.
The event took place during a Rozgar Mela, though reports differ on the specific location. One report placed the event at the ITBP RTC in Shivagangai, Tamil Nadu [1], while other coverage associated the news with Andhra Pradesh [2].
Such employment fairs have become a central pillar of the government's youth empowerment strategy. In a separate 19th Rozgar Mela, 51,000 appointment letters were distributed [4]. Additionally, the ITBP Chandigarh previously hosted the 18th edition of the event to further youth empowerment [5].
Pemmasani said that the combination of infrastructure development and skill-based training will ensure that the youth are prepared for the evolving demands of the global market. He said that transparency in hiring is essential to maintain trust among the young population entering the workforce.
“Youth must focus on acquiring skills to remain competitive.”
The emphasis on skill development over traditional degrees reflects a strategic shift in India's labor policy. By linking 'Viksit Bharat' to transparent recruitment and infrastructure growth, the government is attempting to address the structural gap between academic qualifications and industry requirements to sustain economic growth.
