Nearly 100 wildfires are burning across the U.S., scorching more than 3 million acres and forcing thousands of residents to evacuate [1, 2].

The scale of the current fire season threatens critical infrastructure and residential areas across the West. Severe drought conditions have left vegetation extremely dry, providing abundant fuel for fast-moving blazes [3, 4].

In the Pacific Northwest, Oregon and Washington are facing more than 50 blazes [2]. The impact has been particularly severe in Washington's Spokane area, where wildfires destroyed more than 700 buildings [5]. Local reports indicate that 64,000 people were forced to flee their homes in that region [5].

Across the western U.S. and Canada, the total number of blazes is estimated at over 100 [6]. Among these, more than 40 are classified as large wildfires [6]. Kayna Whitworth of ABC News Live said, "We are seeing an unprecedented number of active fire incidents this season."

Weather conditions are complicating containment efforts. A spokesperson for the U.S. Forest Service said, "The combination of record‑low humidity and high winds is driving the rapid spread of these fires" [7].

Emergency crews continue to battle the flames across multiple states and provinces. A CBS News correspondent said more than 100 blazes are currently burning across the western U.S. and Canada, many of them large and fast-moving [6].
