A massive fire broke out at a pipe storage yard near a CNG station in Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, on Saturday.

The incident occurred near a GAIL facility, raising concerns about potential escalation due to the proximity of combustible compressed natural gas. Because the fire was located in an industrial storage area, rapid containment was necessary to prevent a larger disaster.

Emergency responders worked to bring the blaze under control. Officials said it took approximately two hours [2] to extinguish the fire completely. Despite the scale of the blaze, there were zero casualties [1] reported at the scene.

Local authorities have not yet released a cause for the ignition. The storage yard contained plastic piping, which often fuels rapid fire spread, creating a significant challenge for firefighting teams.

This event follows other recent fire incidents in the region. For instance, four shops were gutted by fire in Govindpuram on June 16 [3].

Zero casualties reported at the scene.

The proximity of the fire to a CNG station highlights the critical risks associated with industrial storage placement near high-pressure fuel facilities. While the lack of casualties in this instance indicates effective emergency response, the frequency of recent fires in the region suggests a potential need for stricter fire safety audits in Uttar Pradesh's industrial zones.
