Vicki Gunvalson denied reports that her children are estranged after her son stated he had not seen his sister in eight years [1].
The clarification addresses public speculation regarding a family rift that surfaced following a recent television broadcast. Because Gunvalson's family dynamics are a frequent subject of public interest, the distinction between physical separation and emotional estrangement is significant for her public image.
Gunvalson said to E! News on Aug. 4, 2024 [2], during the premiere party for ‘The Real Housewives Ultimate Girls Trip: Roaring 20th’ in New York City. She addressed comments made by her son, Michael Wolfsmith, during a Bravo episode that aired on July 30, 2024 [3]. In that episode, Wolfsmith said, "I haven't seen my sister in eight years" [4].
Gunvalson said the siblings are not estranged and that they talk all the time. She explained that the lack of face-to-face contact is a result of geography rather than a conflict. According to Gunvalson, Wolfsmith currently lives in Spain [5], while her daughter, Briana Culberson, lives in another U.S. state [6].
Reports on the length of the siblings' separation varied slightly, with some sources citing eight years [1] and others describing the period as nearly a decade [7]. Gunvalson said that the distance has not severed their relationship.
"They're not estranged," Gunvalson said. "They talk all the time, they just haven't seen each other" [8].
“"They're not estranged. They talk all the time, they just haven't seen each other."”
This situation highlights the gap between reality television narratives and private family lives. While a lack of physical visitation for eight years can be interpreted as a rift by audiences, Gunvalson is attempting to redefine the narrative as a logistical challenge caused by international residency rather than a personal falling out.
