C. Joseph Vijay took the oath of office as the 13th [1] chief minister of Tamil Nadu on Sunday.
The transition marks a significant shift in the state's political landscape as a former actor and leader of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam assumes power. His administration is formed with the support of the Congress party and other allies.
During a first address, Vijay said he is committed to a government defined by openness and performance. He spoke about the difficulties his party faced before achieving victory.
"We have faced a lot of insults & struggles in this political path...With all your support, we will face any challenge," Vijay said. "I want to make the Tamil Nadu government, a transparent one."
The new chief minister outlined several welfare measures intended to provide immediate relief to citizens. Among these initiatives is a promise to provide free electricity for up to 200 units [2].
Vijay also tempered expectations regarding his own role in the government, distancing himself from the image of a flawless savior. This humility was a central theme of his swearing-in ceremony in Tamil Nadu.
"I am not an angel," Vijay said.
His agenda focuses on a combination of transparency and social welfare to stabilize the region. The administration intends to leverage its alliance with Congress to implement these policy goals across the state.
“I want to make the Tamil Nadu government, a transparent one”
The ascent of C. Joseph Vijay represents the continued influence of cinema stars in Tamil Nadu's political culture. By pairing populist welfare promises, such as electricity subsidies, with a pledge of transparency, Vijay is attempting to bridge the gap between celebrity appeal and administrative credibility.
