Manuel Gavira, the Vox candidate for the Presidency of the Junta de Andalucía, said Andalusians want “national priority” following the regional election results on Sunday.
The statement comes as Vox becomes a decisive force in government formation after the People's Party lost its absolute majority. Gavira's appeal to President Juanma Moreno (PP) signals a push for the party's agenda to be central to the next administration's policy.
Gavira spoke after 99% of the votes had been counted [1]. He said that the voters had made their desires clear and urged Moreno to respond with common sense. "Los andaluces han dicho lo que quieren," Gavira said [2].
According to election data, Vox obtained 15 seats in the Andalusian Parliament [3]. This represents an increase of one seat compared with the 2022 results [3]. The party captured a 13.82% vote share [4].
While Vox expanded its influence, the People's Party saw a decline in its dominance. The PP lost five seats, which resulted in the loss of its absolute majority [5]. This shift leaves the PP dependent on other parties to maintain a governing coalition.
Gavira said that the electorate is demanding a shift in focus. "Quieren prioridad nacional y sentido común," Gavira said [6]. He said that the people of Andalusia want national priority as a core component of regional governance [7].
The demand for "national priority" suggests a strategy to tie regional administration more closely to the party's broader nationalist platform. By positioning themselves as the key to the presidency, Vox is leveraging its seat gains to exert pressure on Moreno during the negotiation phase.
“"Los andaluces han dicho lo que quieren"”
The loss of the People's Party's absolute majority transforms Vox from a supporting partner into a kingmaker in Andalusia. By explicitly demanding 'national priority,' Vox is signaling that its support for Juanma Moreno's continued presidency is conditional on policy concessions that align with the party's nationalist ideology.
