Elon Musk's X rolled out a Cashtags feature that delivers live stock and cryptocurrency charts directly in users' feeds on Tuesday.
The addition positions X as a real-time financial hub, letting investors monitor market moves and execute trades without leaving the social platform.
Cashtags display price-action graphs, volume data and news headlines for each ticker. The rollout starts with at least seven assets: Bitcoin, Ethereum, XRP, Dogecoin, MicroStrategy (MSTR), Coinbase (COIN), and others, offering users a quick view of price trends and a button to place a trade in pilot mode[1].
Analysts said the move blurs the line between social networking and brokerage services, a shift that could attract a new wave of retail investors while prompting regulators to examine how market-making rules apply on a platform traditionally known for short messages. The feature also puts X in direct competition with fintech apps that already blend news feeds with trading tools.
X said the Cashtags will expand to cover major equities and additional cryptocurrencies later this year. Users can tap a Cashtag to open a pop-up window that shows a real-time chart and, for pilot participants, a simple buy or sell button. The company promises that all data streams are sourced from licensed market data providers and that trades will be routed through partnered broker-dealers.
“Cashtags bring live market charts to the X timeline.”
By embedding live financial data and limited trading directly into its feed, X is reshaping how users interact with markets, potentially accelerating the convergence of social media and investment services while drawing regulatory scrutiny.
