AMD launched Helios, its first rack-scale AI system, on July 20, 2026 [1], during a presentation in San Francisco.

The move signals a direct effort to break Nvidia's dominance in the AI data-center market by providing an integrated infrastructure solution. By shifting from individual chips to full rack-scale systems, AMD aims to capture a larger share of the cloud computing industry.

Lisa Su, CEO and Chair of Advanced Micro Devices, said the new system represents the company's most aggressive step toward competing with its rival. "Helios is our most competitive move against Nvidia yet," Su said [1].

Su said the company is seeing 30 times more performance with the Helios systems [2]. The system is designed to handle the massive computational loads required by modern large-scale AI models.

Alongside the hardware reveal, the company announced a series of high-profile partnerships. Su said that Microsoft is the newest buyer for the system, joining a client list that includes Meta, OpenAI, and Oracle [1]. These partnerships provide AMD with immediate entry into the most critical AI development environments in the U.S.
