Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu said Tuesday a partnership between FedEx and GMR Airports will create a dedicated air-cargo facility in Delhi [1].
The project aims to modernize India's logistics infrastructure to meet rising air-cargo volumes. By establishing global-standard hubs, the government seeks to integrate the country more deeply into international trade networks [2].
The new facility at Indira Gandhi International Airport involves an investment of $150 million [2]. This infrastructure upgrade is designed to scale the speed of logistics operations in the capital. Specifically, the hub will increase package processing capacity from 600 to 5,000 packages per hour [2].
Kinjarapu said the strategic importance of the collaboration during the announcement on Aug. 25 [1].

The partnership combines the operational expertise of FedEx with GMR Airports' management of the facility. The move follows a broader government initiative to enhance the efficiency of air freight across the country, a priority intended to support export-led growth [2].
The expansion comes as Delhi continues to serve as a primary gateway for goods entering and leaving Northern India. The increased throughput is expected to reduce bottlenecks and lower the time required for customs and sorting processes [2].
