Activision and developer Infinity Ward released a first-look trailer for the "Beta Weekend One" of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 today.
This beta provides a critical early look at the game's mechanics and performance before the full commercial release. It serves as a stress test for servers and a way to gather player feedback on new gameplay systems.
Beta Weekend One is scheduled to run from Aug. 21 [1] through Aug. 25, 2026 [1]. The event will be available across several platforms, including PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC [3].
The trailer highlights several game modes that players can access during the first weekend. These include six-by-six Multiplayer, Ground War, and a new mode called Kill Block [4]. In a departure from previous beta patterns, the event will also feature a preview of a single-player campaign mission [4].
This campaign inclusion marks the first time such a feature has been integrated into a Call of Duty beta [1]. The move allows players to experience the narrative quality and environmental detail of the game before the full launch.
The full version of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is scheduled to launch on Oct. 23, 2026 [3].

The inclusion of a campaign mission in the beta suggests a shift in Activision's marketing strategy, moving beyond purely multiplayer testing to showcase the game's cinematic value. By expanding the beta to include Nintendo Switch alongside high-end consoles and PC, the publisher is signaling a broader accessibility goal for the title's launch.
