Shoba Chandrasekhar expressed joy as the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) party maintained a lead in the Tamil Nadu assembly election results this month.
The result marks a historic entry for the party into the state's political landscape. A strong showing for TVK could disrupt the traditional power dynamics of the region by introducing a new influential force led by former actor Vijay.
Celebrations took place at the family residence of Vijay in Chennai, where Shoba Chandrasekhar said, "I am so happy."
S A Chandrasekhar, the father of the TVK chief, also joined the celebrations. He described Shoba Chandrasekhar as the first fan of Vijay and noted that his son wanted to do something for Tamil Nadu, he said.
Reports on the scale of the lead varied during the counting process. One report indicated that the party was leading in 110 of the 234 seats [1]. Another report noted that the party led in over 60 seats [2]. Due to the volatility of live counting, these figures represent a range of the party's performance during the tally.
Security was increased outside the residence in Chennai as the results continued to emerge. The atmosphere remained celebratory as the family monitored the progress of the 2026 assembly elections.

The reported success of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam suggests a significant shift in Tamil Nadu's political alignment. By securing a lead in a substantial portion of the 234 seats, the party has transitioned from a newcomer to a major contender, potentially challenging established political coalitions in the state.
